Mississippi Shroom Strain: An Abundant Fruiter With a Mysterious History ??The all-American magic mushroom from the deep South has a few tricks up its sleeve. Dan SimmsLast Updated: August 19, 2022PrintThe Mississippi magic mushroom strain is one that is as prevalent as it is mysterious, which is an uncommon combination in the world of shrooms. It grows in abundance in Mississippi and the surrounding areas, yet little is known about when this strain was originally collected and isolated in a lab setting. In this strain guide, we’ll explain what is known about the history of Mississippi magic mushrooms, the average potency of this strain, how to cultivate it from start to finish, and much more. What Are Mississippi Shrooms?Mississippi shrooms are a strain of magic mushrooms that were originally collected from somewhere in the Magnolia State, although little else is known about its origins and lineage. This magic mushroom strain is far from being popular in the magic mushroom community, possibly because it has an unknown history and an average potency. It’s one of the few well-known strains that you will likely have trouble finding spores for from online vendors. We can say that the Mississippi strain — or the wild mushrooms that are most likely closely related to the strain — are still harvested in the wild throughout Mississippi. They’re found in horse fields most often in late spring, commonly growing on horse dung.Mississippi Shroom Specs:Potency AverageCultivation BeginnerSpecies Psilocybe cubensisSubstrate Recommendation Rye Grain or Brown Rice FlourCost $Sold By Ralphster’s SporesStrains vs. Species: What’s The Difference?A species refers to a genetically distinct group of organisms. Strains refer to unique variants within a given species. When we talk about magic mushroom strains, we’re usually referring to varieties of Psilocybe cubensis. Other species of magic mushrooms include Panaeolus cyanescens, Psilocybe mexicana, Psilocybe tampanensis, Psilocybe azurescans, and over 100 others. Mississippi Shrooms Potency & Psilocybin ContentThe psychedelic potency of the Mississippi strain is roughly average compared to other Psilocybe cubensis strains. While there isn’t enough analytical data to provide an accurate average potency for this strain, we estimate the potency is somewhere in the ballpark of 0.6% and 1.2% total tryptamine content (by dried weight). Mississippi Shroom Variations & Genetic RelativesGiven how little is known about the Mississippi strain, it’s difficult to say with certainty what strains are related to it. There is no evidence that there are any variations that have been developed directly from the Mississippi strain. (such as an albino offshoot). Mushroom strains obtained from samples growing around the same region as the Mississippi strain include the Acadian Coast strain and the Dixieland strain. Where to Buy Mississippi Shroom SporesSince the Mississippi strain is not a particularly popular one, you might have difficulty finding vendors who sell it.If you live in the US, Ralphster’s Spores is likely your best option. As of this writing, the strain is available in syringes. You can also check Spores 101, Lil Shop of Spores, and High Desert Spores, although neither of these companies carried the strain when we checked. If you live in Canada, you may have a harder time, but you can check Sporeslab, Spores 101, and Spore Door, but none of these vendors carried the strain when we last checked. If you live in Europe, you’re even less likely to find this strain.
